Having already completed two call-outs on 1 April, we were alerted to the forest fires in Großreifling by the Florian Steiermark headquarters at 13:40.
We worked on these two forest fires for three days and supported the incident command centre with aerial reconnaissance. Using the drone from BFV Leoben, we were able to capture images and video footage of the two forest fires. The incident command used this footage to assess the situation and plan the next steps. On the last day, 3 April, the post-extinguishing work took place, where we used the drone to guide our comrades in the field directly to the pockets of embers via radio, thus enabling a team-friendly approach. In total, we were on site for around 30 hours with a total of 17 firefighters.
