On 26 June 1988, a group from the Vordernberg fire brigade took part in the 24th Styrian provincial performance competition on the occasion of the provincial fire brigade day in Leoben and was awarded the bronze performance badge.
On 10 September 1988, Mayor Dir. Günter Speer could hand over the keys of a new tank fire truck (TLF-A 2000) to the commander of the Vordernberg fire brigade in the presence of numerous guests of honour. During the inauguration ceremony, the new vehicle was called out for its first operation at the Polster refuge. As the extinguishing work proved to be extremely difficult - the water had to be transported to the scene by chairlift using 20-litre containers - the firefighters from the Vordernbergertal section-level were unable to prevent the building from being incinerated. More importantly, however, they saved 5 lives and prevented the fire from spreading to the lift station and the ORF transmitter, which was tantamount to saving around 50 million schillings worth of property.
