The largest deployment of the fire brigade to date in terms of men took place on 12 May 1896, when 101 men were called out to the fire at blast furnace number 10.

The fact that there were already people who made fun of the helpfulness and commitment of the firefighters is shown by the report of a false alarm on 18 July 1896, when 52 men were on the site.
