On Carnival Tuesday, shortly after 6 pm, the volunteer fire brigades of Leoben-Stadt and Leoben-Göss were alerted to an unclear development of smoke in Schladnitzgraben.
However, the fire brigade and police crews who responded were only able to detect an odour of burning, but no more smoke.
In order to be able to rule out a fire in the forest, the drone of the Leoben district fire brigade association, which is stationed in Vordernberg, was alerted by the incident command to check the area. The drone was able to locate a heat source in the area of a garden plot. It turned out that the smell of burning was coming from a small fire barrel filled with embers.
The fire brigade extinguished the embers and were able to return to the fire station three hours later.
